What's wrong with people?! - Danielle L. Davis

What’s wrong with people?!

I haven’t written a post in a while. I’ve been on vacation or working on my novel. Mostly, I simply couldn’t think of anything to write about. That has now changed.

Several days ago, there was a news story about 367 pit bull terriers being rescued in a multi-state dog fighting bust.  At that time, I wanted to write a post about it, but I was too angry to do so. I’m still angry, but I’m going to write about it anyway.  As a dog lover, and I’d like to think, a compassionate human being, I find this disgusting. Are there not enough ways for people to place wagers in this country without harming dogs?

What the hell is wrong with people?  How can someone look at this puppy and train it to become a killing machine? And why?ht_rescued_pitbulls_02_jef_ss_130827_ssh

Since there were guns and illegal narcotics involved, some of the suspects may get longer sentences, but that still isn’t enough punishment, in my opinion.  What would be enough?

There’s absolutely nothing that could happen to those individuals that would take away the horror the dogs have experienced. However, let me give it a shot.

My suggestions:

1.  The other inmates should kick their asses at least once each day.
2.  Deprive them of water, food, bathing, clothing, beds, A/C, medical and dental care.
3.  Make them wear a cinder block and tire attached to a chain around their necks.
4.  Make them sit in the hot sun all day with no shade.

Unfortunately, there are still other dog fighting rings flourishing, even as I type this post. When I hear of stories like this I wonder how people get to be so cruel.  What makes a person not care when they witness another’s suffering or are the cause of it? How do they sleep at night?

  • Thanks for the comments, Amanda. Sadly, I’d think the fighting dogs wouldn’t know how to play with toys, or play at all.

I have no answers, Danielle. I wish I could take all those dogs home with me and cover them with toys and treats. I agree the punishment should fit the crime so your suggestions are perfect.
